HMS Amphion (1911) CC  (5th)

    
This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Amphion was a Scout Cruiser .

Built at Pembroke Dock, laid down 15-Mar-1911, launched 04-Dec-1911 and completed Mar-1913.

On completion served as the Senior Officers Ship 3rd Destroyer Flotilla (L Class), 1913-14. Then with the Harwich Force 1914.

Became the first Royal Navy loss of WW1 06-Aug-1914, when she struck a mine with the loss of 148 of her crew.

The minefield had been laid by the German ship SMS Koningen Luise, which Amphion and her flotilla had just sunk.
