This the third ship to carry the name HMS Revenge was originally HMS Newbury, which was renamed Revenge in 1660.

Newbury was a 52-gun ship, built by Graves of Limehouse, launched Apr-1654 and of 766 tons builders measurement.

Condemned 1678.

Won the Battle Honours: Lowestoft 1665, Four Days' Battle 1666, Orfordness 1666, Bugia 1671 and Schooneveld 1673.
