HMS Fowey (1931) SL  (7th)

    
This the seventh ship to carry the name HMS Fowey was a Shoreham Class (1931) escort sloop.

Built at Devonport Dockyard, laid down 24-Mar-1930, launched 04-Nov-1930, and completed 11-Sep-1931.

On commissioning went to the Gulf from Oct-1931 to Sep-1939,except for refits at Colombo Jul/Aug-1933, May-1936, and Malta Apr-1938. Then after repair at Bombay 09-Sep-1939 she went to the Mediterranean until Nov-1939.

After convoy escort in the Atlantic returned to the UK and refit at Southampton. Joined Western Approaches Command from until Jun-1940 during which she helped in sinking U-55 30-Jan-1940. Then joined the Rosyth Escort Force from Nov-1940 to Jun-1941, after which it was back to the North Atlantic.

Continued in the North Atlantic until Jan-1944 with refits at Belfast Jul-1941, Liverpool Mar/May-1942, Liverpool again Oct-1942, and Milford Haven Jan/May-1943. 

Then it was to the Mediterranean from Jan-1944 to Apr-1944, when another refit at Milford Haven took until Sep-1944. Returned to the Atlantic until the end of WW2.

After this she became static guardship over surrendered U-boats at Stranraer and Larne until Dec-1945.

Started a refit at Portsmouth May-1946 and before being sold to Egypt which was later cancelled. Sold Oct-1946 for £9,500 as Fowlock.

Reported broken up at Mombasa 1950.

Won the Battle Honour: Atlantic 1939-45.
