This the ninth ship to carry the name HMS Defiance was a third rate, 64-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built at Woolwich Dockyard, launched 31-Aug-1772, 159ft long, 44ft wide and of 1,369 tons builders measurement.

Wrecked off Savannah River 18-Feb-1780.
