HMS Brilliant (1931) DD  (6th)

    
This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Brilliant was a destroyer.

Built by Swan Hunter, laid down 09-Jul-1929, launched 09-Oct-1930, and commissioned 21-Feb-1931.

Took part in the King George V Silver Jubilee Fleet Review 16-Jul-1935.

Early in WW2 she took part in the Dunkirk operations 1940. Then 1941 was spent mainly on escort duties. From later in 1941 in the South Atlantic where she had some success intercepting German blockade runners.

Nov-1942 she sank the French sloop La Surprise off Oran.

By late 1944 she was in Home waters with the 1st Flotilla at Plymouth where her war ended.

Paid off into reserve Nov-1945.

Sold 18-Aug-1947, and broken up at Troon.

Won the Battle Honours: English Channel 1940-43, Atlantic 1941-43 and North Africa 1942-43.
