This the first ship to carry the name HMS Resistance was a fifth rate, 44-gun ship.

Built by Graves of Deptford, launched 11-Jul-1782, 140ft long, 38ft wide and of 963 tons builders measurement.

Blown up 24-Jul-1798 in the Banca Strait.
