HMS London (1840) (8th) 2nd Rate 92-gun
This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS London was a second rate, 92-gun, ship-of-the-line. Built at Chatham Dockyard, launched 28-Sep-1840, 206ft long, 54ft 6in wide, of 2,598 tons builders measurement (bm), and displacing 4,375 tons. Armed with 10 x 8in and 82 x 32pdr guns. Conversion to a screw ship completed 13-May-1858, with increased tonnage of 2,687 tons bm, and reduced armament of 72 guns. Took part in the Royal Fleet Review 1853 and the Royal Fleet Review 1856. Used as a harbour storeship from Apr-1874. Sold in Zanzibar for breaking up, 1884. Won the Battle Honour: Crimea 1854-55.
