HMS Intrepid (1937) DD  (7th)

    
This the seventh ship to carry the name HMS Intrepid was an I Class, destroyer.

Built by Thornycroft, laid down 13-Jan-1936, launched 17-Dec-1936, and commissioned 29-Jul-1937.

Was in the Mediterranean at the start of WW2 and immediately ordered to the Home Fleet.

May/Jun-1940 took part in the Belgium and France evacuations, where she was damaged.

Ten spent her time mainly in arctic waters until early 1943 when she went to Western Approaches Command.

Mid 1943 it was to the Mediterranean and operations as part of the Sicily and Salerno landings.

Then on to operations in the Eastern Mediterranean.

27-Sep-1943 was bombed and sunk by German aircraft in Leros harbour.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939-41, Dunkirk 1940, 'Bismarck' 1941, Norway 1941-42, Arctic 1941-43, Malta Convoys 1942, Sicily 1943, Salerno 1943, and Aegean 1943.
