This the first ship to carry the name HMS Hannibal was a fourth rate, 50-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built by Adams of Bucklers Hard, launched 26-Dec-1779, 146ft long, 41ft wide and of 1,054 tons builders measurement.

Captured by the French ship Heros, off Sumatra 21-Jan-1782.
