HMS Gibraltar (1780)  (4th)
2nd Rate 80-gun

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Gibraltar was a second rate, 80-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Originally Spanish (Fenix), captured 16-Mar-1780, 179ft long, 53ft 6in wide and of 2,185 tons builders measurement.

Used as a powder hulk from Dec-1813.

Used as a Lazaretto, (an accommodation ship to quarantine men suffering from suspected or actual infectious disease), from Sep-1824.

Broken up Nov-1836.

Won the Battle Honours: First of June 1784, Egypt 1801 and Basque Roads 1809.
