HMS Essex (1679)  (2nd)

This the second ship to carry the name HMS Essex was a third rate, 70-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built by Johnson of Blackwall, launched 1679, 150ft long, 40ft wide and of 1,059 tons builders measurement (bm).

Rebuilt at Rotherhithe 1700 as 1,090 tons bm and 64-guns.

Wrecked 21-Nov-1760 while in action at Quiberon Bay.

Won the Battle Honour: Barfleur 1692, Vigo 1702, Gibraltar 1704, Velez Malaga 1704, Passero 1718 and Quiberon Bay 1759.
