HMS Dreadnought (1879) BB  (8th)

This Dreadnought the eighth to carry the name, was a class of one. Originally named HMS Fury, she was renamed Dreadnought shortly before being launched.

Built at Pembroke Dock, laid down 1872, launched 08-Mar-1875 and completed 1879.

On completion she went straight into Reserve. But in 1884 joined the fleet in the Mediterranean, where she remained until 1894.
After a refit, she served as a coastguard ship from 1875-1897. Then after a second refit when she was re-boilered, and had small guns added, she again went into Reserve.

From 1902 she was used mainly as a depot ship until being sold in 1908.

Broken up at Barrow and Preston from Feb-1909.
