London Class (1929) CC

For the 1925 cruiser construction program the Admiralty wanted additional ships which complied with the 1922 Washington Naval Treaty, and based on the Kent Class (1927).

These were the London Class (1929).

Their hull form was altered to give internal rather than external anti-torpedo bulges, which added ˝kt to the top speed.

They were rearmed in 1939, increasing their anti-aircraft defences. More extensive planned  modifications were shelved, but as WW2 progressed, changes were made to their defensive armament.

Aircraft were removed from all ships and in 1944-45 'X' turret was removed from Devonshire and Sussex.

All survived WW2 ended they all served until the early to mid-1950's.
