This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Wessex was a drillship.

Originally HMS Erne, a sloop, built by Furness Shipbuilders, launched 05-Aug-1940, 283ft long, 37ft 6in wide and displacing 1,250 tons.

Renamed HMS Wessex 04-Jun-1952 and used as a drillship.

Appeared at the Coronation Review 1953.

Arrived at Antwerp 27-Oct-1965 for breaking up.
