HMS Vigilant (1943) DD  (10th)

    
This the tenth ship to carry the name HMS Vigilant was a destroyer.

Built by Swan Hunter, laid down 31-Jan-1942, launched 22-Dec-1942 and commissioned 10-Sep-1943.

On commissioning served in the Arctic, alternating arctic convoy duty with carrier raids against Norway.

At the end of 1944 went to the East Indies taking part in carrier raids against the Malayan and Burmese coasts, until the end of the war. Went into reserve 1947.

Converted to a Type 15 frigate 1952-53 added 2 x 4in guns and squid anti-submarine mortar, and changed classification to a frigate.

Arrived at Faslane for breaking up 04-Jun-1965.

Won the Battle Honours: Arctic 1943-44, Normandy 1944, Malaya 1945, Burma 1945 and East Indies 1945.
