HMS Trouncer (1944) CVE  (1st)

    
This the first ship to carry the name HMS Trouncer was a Ruler Class (1942) escort aircraft carrier. Built for the US Navy as USS Perdido, CVE 47, and transferred to the Royal Navy under lease-lend terms.

Built by Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corp, laid down 01-Feb-1943, launched 16-Jul-1943, transferred to the Royal Navy and commissioned 31-Jan-1944.

Modifications to meet Royal Navy requirements followed at Vancouver, which lasted until 15-May-1944.

Used as a ferry carrier Jun-1944 to Mar-1945. Refitted at Belfast Mar-1945 to Sep-1945.

Allocated to the Eastern Fleet 14-Sep-1945 and served in the Indian Ocean Area.

Arrived at the Clyde 12-Dec-1945 to de-store.

Returned to the US Navy at Norfolk Navy Yard 03-Mar-1946.

Later sold as the merchant ship Greystoke Castle.

Renamed Gallic 1954, then Benrinnes 1959.

Broken up at Taiwan 03-Nov-1973.

Won the Battle Honour: Atlantic 1944.
