HMS Temeraire (1877) BB  (3rd)

    
This HMS Temeraire was the third to carry the name.

She was an Iron Screw Battleship, built at Chatham Dockyard. Laid down in Aug-1873, launched 09-May-1876 and completed in Aug-1877. 

She served in the Mediterranean from 1877-91, except for a short period in the Channel. She was part of the Fleet which made the passage of the Dardanelles in 1878 and in the bombardment of Alexandria.

Was in Reserve at home from 1891-1904. 

She was then renamed Indus II (TS) in Apr-1904. and used as a depot ship. Renamed again in Jan-1915 to Akbar.

Sold 26-May-1921.

Won the Battle Honour: Alexandria 1882.
