This the first ship to carry the name HMS Sutherland was a fourth rate, 50-gun ship-of-the-line.

Built by Taylor shipbuilders of Rotherhithe, launched 15-Oct-1741, 134ft long, 38ft 6in wide and of 874 tons builders measurement.

Sold 05-Jun-1770.

Won the Battle Honours: Louisburg 1758, Quebec 1759, Martinique 1762 and Havana 1762.
