HMS Raider (1942) DD  (2nd)

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Raider was an R Class (1942), destroyer.

Built by Cammell Laird, laid down 16-Apr-1941, launched 01-Apr-1942, and commissioned 16-Nov-1942.

On commissioning went to the Mediterranean, then to the Eastern Fleet in South African waters 1943. In 1944 still with the Eastern Fleet, went to the Indian Ocean where she stayed for the remainder of the war.

Decommissioned Jan-1946 and went into reserve.

Used as an Aircraft Carrier tender in the Mediterranean 06-May-1946 to Aug-1947.

Transferred to the Indian Navy 29-Jul-1949 and renamed Rana.

Broken up 1976.

Won the Battle Honours: Arctic 1942-43, Sicily 1943, Salerno 1943, Mediterranean 1943, Sabang 1944, East Indies 1944 and Burma 1944-45.
