HMS Punjabi (1939) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Punjabi  was a Tribal Class, destroyer.

Built by Scotts,  laid down 01-Oct-1936, launched 18-Dec-1937, commissioned 29-Mar-1939.

Early in WW2 took part in Norwegian and North Sea operations including the 2nd Battle of Narvik where she was damaged by shellfire.

Action followed with the Lofoten Raid Mar-1941.

Later with the 6th Destroyer Flotilla helped with the Hunt for the Bismarck. After which 1941/42 was spent mainly in Arctic duties.

On 01-May-1942 during bad weather in the Atlantic, was rammed and sunk by the battleship King George V.

Won the Battle Honours: Narvik 1940, Atlantic 1940-42, Norway 1941, 'Bismarck' 1941 and Arctic 1941-42.
