This the first ship to carry the name HMS Nonsuch was originally HMS Phillip and Mary a 44-gun Galleon, built 1556 and of 550 tons builder measurement (bm).

Rebuilt 1584 as 600 tons bm and armed with 2 x 60pdr, 3 x 34pdr, 7 x 18pdr, 8 x 9pdr, 12 x 6pdr and 24 smaller guns. Renamed HMS Nonpareil.

Renamed HMS Nonsuch and rebuilt as 613 tons bm in 1603.

Sold about 1645.
