HMS Leamington (1940) DD  (2nd)

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Leamington was a Town Class, destroyer. One of 50 sold to the Royal Navy under the destroyers for bases agreement.

Originally the USS Twiggs DD127, built by New York Shipbuilding Co, laid down 23-Jan-1918, launched 28-Sep-1918, commissioned in the US Navy 28-Jul-1919, commissioned in the Royal Navy 23-Oct-1940 and renamed.

Refitted at Devonport 15 to 29-Nov-1940 then joined the 2nd Escort Group to begin escort duty. Shared sinking of U-207 with HMS Veteran on 11-Sep-1941 and sank U-587 on 27-Mar-1942.

Refitted at  Hartlepool July to Nov-1942.

Loaned to the Royal Canadian Navy Dec-1942 to Dec-1943. Returned to the UK Dec-1943, and laid up in reserve Jan-1944,.

Transferred to the to the Soviet Navy 16-Jul-1944 to 16-Nov-1950 as the Zhguchi.

Laid up on return to the Royal Navy 15-Nov-1950.

Sold 26-Jul-1951 and arrived at Newport 03-Dec-1951 for breaking up.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1941-43 and Arctic 1942.
