HMS Icarus (1937) DD  (4th)

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Icarus was an I Class, destroyer.

Built by John Brown on the Clyde, laid down, 16-mar-1936, launched 26-Nov-1936, commissioned 03-may-1937.

Was in the Mediterranean when WW2 started and immediately ordered home. Early Dec-1939 joined the forming 20th Destroyer Flotilla for minelaying duty. Took part in the Norwegian Campaign including the second battle of Narvik.

Spent the remainder of the was in home waters except for deployment to the Mediterranean for Operations harpoon and Pedestal in 1942.

Paid off 29-Aug-1946.

Sold 29-Oct-1946 and broken up at Troon.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939-44, North Sea 1939, Narvik 1940, Norway 1940-41, Dunkirk 1940, 'Bismarck' 1941, Arctic 1941-43, Malta Convoys 1942, Normandy 1944 and English Channel 1945.
