HMS Hostile (1936) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Hostile was an H Class, destroyer.

Built by Scotts, laid down 27-Feb-1935,  launched 24-Jan-1936, commissioned 10-Sep-1936.

On commissioning, joined the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean, and was there at the start of WW2.

Sent initially to the South Atlantic, then early 1940 to home waters.

Took part in the Norwegian campaign, including the 1st Battle of Narvik.

May-1940 it was back to the Mediterranean and mainly Fleet actions with Malta convoys, and the evacuation of Crete.

Struck a mine and sank 23-Aug-1940 off Cape Bon.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939-40, Narvik 1940, Norway 1940 and Calabria 1940.
