HMS Gipsy (1936) DD  (5th)

    
This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Gipsy was a G Class, destroyer.

Built by Fairfield, laid down 05-Sep-1934, launched 07-Nov-1935, and commissioned 22-Feb-1936.

At the start of WW2, Gipsy was with the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean, and when it became clear that Italy was not immediately going to join the war returned to home waters.

Struck a mine 21-Nov-1939 off Harwich, in a minefield laid shortly before by German destroyers.

The crew were taken off by HMS Bursa and the wreck later beached.
