HMS Gallant (1936) DD  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Gallant was a G Class, destroyer.

Built by Stephen, laid down 15-Sep-1934, launched 29-Sep-1935, and commissioned 25-Feb-1936.

Was with the 1st Destroyer Flotilla in home waters at the start of WW2. Under refit at the time of the Norwegian campaign, but participated in the evacuations from France and Belgium May-1940, when she was damaged by near misses.

After repairs sent to the Mediterranean. Assisted in sinking Italian submarine La Fole 20-Oct-1940.

Struck a mine 10-Jan-1941 off Malta, and towed into harbour. While in harbour hit by bombs 20-Jan and assessed as a Constructive Total Loss.

Apr-1942 bombed again.

Sunk as a block ship 1943.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939, Dunkirk 1940, Spartivento 1940, Mediterranean 1940-41 and Malta Convoys 1941.
