HMS Finisterre (1945) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Finisterre was a Battle Class (1944), destroyer.

Built by Fairfield, laid down 08-Dec-1942, launched 22-Jun-1944, and commissioned 11-Sep-1945.

Too late to see service during WW2 served initially with the Home Fleet then went to the Far East.

Used as a gunnery training ship at Portsmouth from 1951.

Appeared at the Coronation Review 1953.

Put into reserve 1954. Recommissioned 1959 and went to the Far East. Served off Kuwait during the crisis when that country became independent in 1961.

Went into reserve Apr-1962.

Decommissioned and sold for scrapping 1965 and broken up at Faslane 1967.
