HMS Dainty (1933) DD  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Dainty was a D Class, destroyer.

Built by Fairfield, laid down 20-Apr-1921, launched 03-May-1932, commissioned 03-Jan-1933.

At the start of WW2, Dainty in with all the D Class destroyers, were on the China Station. They were ordered initially to the Mediterranean. Then Dainty in company with Duchess and Diana provided escort to the Battleships HMS Barham and the French Dunkerque from Gibraltar to the Clyde.

After this it was service in the South Atlantic, back to the Mediterranean in May-1940. She had a success when with Decoy and Ilex she sank the Italian submarines Liuzzi and Scebeli.

Then it was time for operations in the Aegean Sea.

Sunk 24-Feb-1941 at Tobruk by dive bombing JU-87's.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1940, Mediterranean 1940-41, Calabria 1940, Libya 1940-41 and Malta Convoys 1941.
