HMS Cumberland (1989) FG  (11th)

    

The current HMS Cumberland is the eleventh ship to bear the name and the second of four Batch 3 Type 22 frigates.

Cumberland was built on the Clyde by Yarrow Shipbuilders Ltd and subsequently commissioned in her base port of Devonport in June 1989.

The ship is affiliated to the County of Cumbria, formerly Cumberland, and is a proud "Ambassador for Cumbria". She maintains successful affiliations with a number of Sea Cadet Units, local Schools, the Cumberland Hotel, and the Kings Own Royal Border Regiment of the British Army.

Took part in the Trafalgar 200 Fleet Review.

In her final deployment in Mar-2011 took part in operations to evacuate civilians from Libya and enforce United nations arms embargo against that country.

Returned to Plymouth 17-Apr-2011 for the last time.

Decommissioned 23-Jun-2011.

Ship's motto is: 'Tenacious of Justice'.
