HMS Broadwater (1940) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Broadwater was a Town Class, destroyer. One of 50 sold to the Royal Navy under the destroyers for bases agreement.

Originally the USS Mason DD191, built by Newport News Ship Building Co, laid down 10-Jul-1918, launched 08-Mar-1919, commissioned in the US Navy 28-Feb-1920, commissioned in the Royal Navy 02-Oct-1940 and renamed.

Escort service began when she was allocated to the 11th Escort Group but a number of defects became evident during early escort duty which required several repairs and refits.

Sailed to join the Newfoundland Escort Force covering convoys on the Iceland route. 

Torpedoed and sunk 18-Oct-1941 by U-101 at 57.01N 19.08W.

Won the Battle Honour: Atlantic 1941.
