HMS Berwick (1903) CC  (8th)

    
This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Berwick was an Armoured Cruiser.

Built by Beardmore of Dalmuir, laid down 19-Apr-1901, launched 20-Sep-1902, and completed 09-Dec-1903.

On completion joined the 1st Cruiser Squadron Channel Fleet 1903-04, then the 2nd Cruiser Squadron Atlantic Fleet 1904-07 and the Portsmouth Division, Home Fleet 1908 when she unfortunately rammed and sank the destroyer HMS Tiger during night exercises off the Isle of Wight 02-Apr-1908. 

Refitted 1908-09. To the 4th Cruiser Squadron America & West Indies Station 1909-19. When she captured the German merchantman Spreewald in the South Atlantic 10-Sep-1914. Served on convoy escort duty during the remainder of WW1.

Returned to the UK and paid of at Devonport 1919.

Sold 01-Jul-1920, towed to Hamburg 28-Aug-1922 for breaking up.
