HMS Barfleur (1894) BB  (4th)

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Barfleur was a Centurion Class (1894) battleship. 

She was built at Chatham Dockyard, laid down in Oct-1890. launched 10-Aug-1892 and completed in Jun-1894.

After an initial year spent in Reserve, she went to the Mediterranean from 1895-98, and then on to the China station until 1902.

In 1900 she was involved in the Boxer Rebellion in China and like her sister ship Centurion,  landed shore parties for operations against the boxers. During this, her Commander was the future Admiral of the Fleet, Earl Beatty. While the Flag captain of the Centurion was a Captain Jellico, future Admiral of the Fleet, Earl Jellico. 

On returning to home waters she was reconstructed with 6in guns replacing the 4in ones.  

After this she went into Reserve and was sold 12-Jul-1910 for breaking up.

Won the Battle Honour: China 1900.
