This the first ship to carry the name HMS Australia was a wooden paddle frigate.

Built at Bombay Dockyard, launched 09-Jan-1840, and of 946 tons builders measurement.

Armed with 6 x 8in guns.

Used for harbour service from 1863.

Sold about 1874.
