HMS Amethyst (1799)  (2nd)
5th Rate 36-gun

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Amethyst was a fifth rate, 36-gun, ship.

Built at Deptford Dockyard, launched 22-Apr-1799, 150ft long, 39ft wide and of 1,046 tons builders measurement.

Operated mainly in the Bay of Biscay during the French Revolutionary War, taking several prizes including a French East Indiaman.

Continued to serve during the Napoleonic War.

Wrecked 16-Feb-1811 at Plymouth Sound during a storm, and the wreck broken up Apr-1811.

Won the Battle Honours: 'Cerbere' 1800, 'Thetis' 1808 and 'Nieman' 1809.
