Sandown Class (1989) MH

The Sandown Class of single role mine hunters are constructed of Glass Reinforced Plastic hulls.

They are tasked with keeping ports and shipping lanes fee from mines. Both in the UK and deployments world wide.

While they have traditional minesweeping gear they also use high definition sonar to find mines, then deploy submersibles to destroy them with high explosives.

They use both diesel engines and a mix of 360º azimuth propellers and bow thrusters to provide extremely accurate navigation and station keeping.
