Stour (E) Class (1910) DD

The Stour (E) Class (1910) were a class of two destroyers built by White. Part of the 1903-04 programme.

Following construction of seven river class ships, Cammell Laird built two further destroyers on spec in 1905. They were unsuccessful in selling them to foreign navies and in 1908 offered them to the Admiralty at Admiralty prices. They were now obsolescent and the Admiralty were not interested.

However after the loss of two River class ships Gala and Blackwater the Admiralty decided to replace them with the Cammell Laird vessels, which were bought for the bargain price of £50,000 each.

When destroyers were allocated class letters in 1912, all became the E Class.
