County Class (1962) DDG

The County Class (1962) guided missile destroyers were the first British ships with guided missiles as the main armament.

The batch one ships turned out to be larger than planned, mainly due to the handling arrangements for the Sea Slug Missiles.

The batch two ships were armed with the Sea Slug Mk2 system which had a limited capability against surface targets.

All of the class were refitted with Exocet missiles in place of the second gun turret.
