Exeter Class (1931) CC

This single ship class of cruiser was originally intended to be a sister ship to the previous class the York Class (1930) CC, but economics meant only one had been built. Exeter was part of the 1927 construction programme.

Exeter was similar to HMS York but had increased protection and beam.

Despite Exeter and York being successful ships they were the last cruisers to be armed with 8in guns.
