HMS Splendid (1942) SS  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Splendid was an S Class submarine. 

Built at Chatham dockyard, laid down 07-Mar-1941, launched 19-Jan-1942, and completed 04-Aug-1942.

Originally carried the pennant number P78, later renumbered P228, and later still renamed HMS Splendid.

Scuttled after being depth charged and forced to the surface by German destroyer Hermes off Capri 21-Apr-1943. 

Won the Battle Honours: Mediterranean 1942 and North Africa 1942 (as P228).
