HMS Royalist (1943) CC  (9th)

    
This the ninth ship to carry the name HMS Royalist was an anti-aircraft, light cruiser.

Built by Scotts of Greenock, laid down 21-Mar-1940, launched 30-May-1942, and commissioned 10-Sep-1943.

On completion served with the Home Fleet on Arctic convoy escort, and also covered carrier raids against the German battleship Tirpitz.

Went to the Mediterranean to support the landings in the south of France Aug-1944, as part of escort carrier squadron TF88.1 . On 15-Sep in company with HMS Teazer sank the transports KT4 and KT26 off Cape Spatha.

Moved on to the Aegean Sea until late-1944, when she went to the East Indies.

In Apr-1945 was Flagship 21st Escort Carrier Squadron, covering the Rangoon landings.

For the rest of the war covered carrier raids against targets in the East Indies and Sumatra.

After the war ended returned to home waters and went into reserve.

Underwent a major refit from 1954 to Apr-1956 after which she was loaned to the Royal New Zealand Navy 09-Jul-1956.

Paid of 04-Jun-1966 and returned to Royal Navy control 1967.

Sold Nov-1967 and towed from Auckland 31-Dec-1967 for scrapping at Osaka.

Won the Battle Honours: South France 1944, Aegean 1944, Burma 1945 and East Indies 1945.
