HMS Electra (1934) DD  (5th)

    
This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Electra was an E Class, destroyer.

Built by Hawthorn Leslie, laid down 15-Mar-1933, launched 15-Feb-1934 and commissioned 29-Nov-1934.

On completion she formed the 5th Destroyer Flotilla with her sister ships.

Took part in the King George V Silver Jubilee Fleet Review 16-Jul-1935.

At the start of WW2 saw service with the Home Fleet, then to the Mediterranean in 1940.

At the end of 1941 formed part of the escort to HMS Repulse to Colombo and joined the Eastern Fleet, arriving in Singapore 02-Dec-1941.

Sunk 27-Feb-1942 by the Japanese cruiser Jintsu, Battle of the Java Sea.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939-40, Norway 1940, 'Bismarck' 1941, Arctic 1941 and Malaya 1941.
