HMS Antelope (1546)  (1st)
Galleasse 38-gun

    
This the first ship to carry the name HMS Antelope was a 38-gun, galleasse.

Built 1546, and of approx 300 tons builders measurement. Carried a crew of 200 and armed with 4 brass and 40 iron guns. Listed as a ship from 1549.

Rebuilt as a galleon 1558.

Rebuilt 1577 as a Galleon of 341 tons builders measurement, armed with 4 x 9pdr, 13 x 6pdr 8 x 4pdr and 13 smaller guns.

Took part in the action against the Spanish Armada 1588.

Rebuilt again 1618 as 384 tons bm and classed as a middling ship.

During the the English Civil War was part of the Royalist Navy from 1648.

Captured and burned 1649 by Parliamentarians.

Won the Battle Honour: Armada 1588.
