Description The action took place about 40 miles north of Ushant.

At 0700hrs HMS Lively sighted three sails and gave chase. The largest being the French frigate Tourtelle. At 1030hrs the two opened fire on each other. By 1330hrs Tourtelle had been severely damaged and disabled, and surrendered.

Tourtelle lost 16 killed and 25 wounded out of 230 aboard. Lively had none killed and 2 wounded out of 251 aboard.
