Description The action took place about 3 miles west of Marie Gallant, the Saintes islands in the West Indies.

At 0045hrs HMS Blanche returned fire to the French ship Pique and by 0100hrs the two were closely engaged

At 0200hrs the French ship Pique having left harbour and sailed close to HMS Blanche hoisted her colours and opened fire. By 0230 hrs several attempts by the French to board Blanche had been repulsed. At 0315hrs Pique's last remaining mast was destroyed and despite being defenceless the French continued to resist. Then at 0515hrs surrendered.

Pique lost 76 killed and 110 wounded out of 279 aboard. HMS Blanche lost 8 killed and 21 wounded out of 198 aboard.
