Description The action took place about 10 miles north of Batavia. (Present day Jakarta, Indonesia)

At daybreak on the 26-April HMS Sylvia sighted three armed brigs accompanied by two smaller transports near Edam Island heading for Batavia. She set out in pursuit and attacked the rearmost brig. After a 20 minute battle the Dutch Echo was captured. The two other brigs succeeded in reaching the safety of the batteries at Onroost. But the two transports were captured.

Sylvia lost 4 killed and 3 wounded and Echo lost 3 killed and 7 wounded.
