Description The action took place in the Atlantic at 43º16' North 12º 14' west.

At 0500 hrs HMS Phoenix (36) sighted a sail to the south west and began a chase.. This was the French Didon (44) and fire was opened 08:45 hrs. At one point during the battle the two ships came together and the French boarders were fought off. 

Both ships suffered severe damage and the Frenchman struck her colours at 12:15 hrs.

Didon lost 27 killed and 44 seriously wounded out of 330 aboard , Phoenix 12 Killed and 28 seriously wounded out of 245 aboard..
